Vee Haf Vays of Making You Healzee

This morning at the gym I saw (on TV) protesters outside the White House holding up signs comparing President Obama to a very evil German dictator. And at least one poster depicting the President with a sinister little moustache.
OK, I give up, crazy right wing, you've lost me on this one.
Unless public health care will only be offered to white Christians with blond hair and blue eyes who goose step around heiling each other I don't quite see how trying to provide affordable health care to more people is reminiscent of you-know-who.
But in the midst of very real concerns about the new health care plan it is reassuring to know that the killer counter argument is a picture of the President with a moustache.

  1. They did the same thing to George Bush. It's a common, tired theme.

  2. True. . . although GW allowed people to be detained without a lawyer and tortured and also clamped down on the news agencies so although I disapproved of the comparison, I didn't need help understanding it.

  3. Really? Germany really wants to go there?

  4. Just to clarify for Kristina: I'm fairly certain that HPH is referring to AMERICAN protesters comparing Obama to Hitler. I mean, if GERMANS did it, it would just be tacky. If Americans do it, it's free speech. (I'm so proud of my country. USA, USA, USA. . . Ugh.)

  5. Yes, sorry, American protesters. I agree with the solipsist that Germans protesting would be tacky.

  6. I know I'm fairly late to the game here but is that stunning figured girly pic on your profile actually YOU? Just to clarify... I am sure you look fabulous in anything, but is that CHEESE and LETTUCE?

  7. R! Hiya! Half right. It is cheese and lettuce (it is a crochet'd hamburger dress) but I'm not the one modeling it. It looks WAY better on me!

  8. I also do not understand the protest. It's ok to spend uncontrolled amounts dropping bombs, but we have no $$$ for health care??

I saw the funniest bumper sticker today...

    Who Would Jesus Bomb?

  9. Seriously - I don't understand what all the fuss is about. What is wrong with giving everyone health care? Is it better now where the poor cannot afford it? It's crazy. Even under the worst Thatcher (right-wing) years in the UK, she didn't even try to dismantle the NHS, our free health care system put in place by the Labour party.

  11. The US is about the only western country left without a health care system.

  12. Err, this is probably a topic I shouldn't wade into here. That said, don't put me in the Mein Furor moustache crowd.

  13. Are you sure they weren't going for Charlie Chaplin? So...then that makes about as much sense as Hitler?

  14. I recently had some American visitors at my house and we had some interesting discussions about health care. Even though it peronally affects them and family/friends around them (they admit this) they don't want to pay for "some yahoo who made bad choices." It came down to being fair for them. That being said, I still don't get the Hitler reference either and neither did they.
