Merry Christmas

Another Christmas, another round of antibiotics.

True to form, I came down with strep throat on Christmas Eve. Last year it was bronchitis, only I waited a month before going to a specialist for antibiotics and by that time I needed cortisone to heal some internal damage, including several microtears in my ribs that still twinge.

This time we called the specialist immediately so I'm already on my way back to health.

This is my first strep throat and I had no idea it was so agonizingly painful. The back of your throat swells to twice it's normal size and swallowing is a private microcosm of hurt. Technically, it only hurts when you swallow but how do you not swallow?

Still, it was a fine Christmas and I for one am heartily grateful that 2009 is nearly over. Even though there is a high probability that 2010 will get worse before it gets better, it's still nice to see the back of 2009.

Don't worry, we're all fine (well, except me, I've got my annual plague but I'm on the mend), and there have been some memorable high points, but all in all it was a very difficult year.

Anyway, enough about me. I just wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas season and a very Happy New Year.

  1. Oh no - poor you! I had tonsillitis last year and that was like having shards of glass in your throat.

Glad to hear you're on the mend.

  2. Glad the antibiotics are taking hold and you're moving back toward health! May you and your family enjoy great health and abundant happiness in the New Year, HPH!

    Merry Christmas!

  3. A belated Merry Christmas!

Yes, strep throat hurts SO MUCH. I feel for you. Funnily enough, I seem to only get it in the summer time but I've had it fairly often and it's no fun. Luckily once you get on the antibiotics the pain goes away pretty fast. You might want to get your kids tested for it even if they show no signs because my doc once told me there is often a "silent carrier" in the family who keeps infecting others while staying healthy her/himself.

    Get well soon!

  4. Thanks Christina 'belated' is the word I was looking for. I kept coming up with 'posthumous.'

  5. Glad to hear you're better. It's not fun being sick on Christmas!

I hope things are better in 2010 and may you be plague-less next Christmas.

  6. Get well soon! One of my triplets just had strep throat and his throat was so swollen his tonsils were touching! I've had it too, it's awful! I hope 2010 brings you a more pleasant year!

    Happy Holidays!

  7. That sucks! Strep throat really is awful.

  8. What a rotten thing.. to get sick during the Holidays..though the picture of the two of you is darling!

Merry Christmas..and may this be a GOOD New Year!!!!

  9. Such a lovely pic of you and your hubby! May you be the picture of good health by the time the New Year begins! Have an awesome 2010 HPH!

  10. Merry 2 Days After Christmas!
I so appreciate how you waited and waited to seek medical attention. I catch a lot of flak around here for refusing to go to the doctor. I just feel so guilty for taking antibiotics, ya know? Aaaand I'm on my second round in the past month or so for two different reasons. Poo!

Get well soon. How can you not swallow indeed!!

  11. Yep, I get sick at least 2 holidays a year too. For sure on Easter. I am glad it turned out okay for you though!

  12. Gute Besserung!
Sorry to hear you got sick again this Christmas -- hopefully this will not become a pattern!
Have a merry remaining 10 days of Christmas...

  13. Oh no! I always worry that I will be sick on CHristmas! I had the flu the day before Christmas Eve(but I thought it was food poisoning & so I passed it on to my sisters & mom who got it the day after :) But Those 2 important days remained healthy somehow! Sorry you were sick! Fun to see you & your honey!

  14. What a beautiful photo! Hope you are feeling much better and ready to party for New Year's eve!

  15. I feel your pain. I was also sick this weekend, sucks! Get well Laura.

  16. I hope we all have an wonderful 2010. (Because 2009 has left much to be desired.)
